Students at work in "Tambopata" - Peru

Field work puts students in contact with nature and with the techniques they need to learn in order to undertake basic ecological research. Most of the work is physically and mentally demanding under conditions of high temperature, high humidity and lots of insects around them. Situations like this one help to form the character and temper of our students. In the end, they get a real appreciation for nature and for people devoted to its protection and research.

The wet season occurs between June and October.
"Lachay Hills"

"Lachay Hills" in Lima - PERU, represents a unique ecosystem in the middle of the Peruvian coastal desert that depends entirely on the winter fog which provides sufficient water to enable the development of an amazing "lomas" plant community and its associated fauna. Although there are other "lomas" in Peru, "Lachay Hills" is the only ecosystem of its type with the status of Nature Reserve.

The spirit behind Environmental Systems is sustained on the rigorous academic knowledge and understanding of climatic, ecological, biological and socio-cultural process that happen in natural and urban systems, on the investigations we make on those processes, on the reflection we make about our past present and future actions and the associated resposibility, and on the service we provide to our peers on the basis of our understanding.

For Peruvians it is paramount to be aware that there is one "Codigo del Medio Ambiente y los Recursos Naturales" whose main objective is to set the legal foundations that will rule the behaviour and conduct of Peruvian citizens in regard to our environment therefore every Peruvian should take a look at this important set of principles which you can download from the link below.
